Erikoisvuolu was the name of our wartime knife. Materials were very restricted, sheath was made from cardboard and knife fitting from zinc. Leather was needed for back bags, belts, harnesses and straps and all brass was used for ammunition, so production needed some different measures. Hand engraved decorations were made to the fitting, even in these conditions. Most of the workers were fighting in the frontline, so production was running by the force of women and older men.
On 27th April 2025 will be the 80th anniversary of peace. Aggression of the Soviet Union ended earlier, and the condition of the peace treaty required all German forces to leave the country. German troops left Finland to Norway from Kilpisjärvi on that day in 1945.
We will celebrate the peace on that day in 2025 with a numbered special edition knife, 80 pcs will be produced. This is also for honoring those who fought the peace for us.
The model of the knife is the same as during the war, birch bark handle with curly birch pommel, Finnish coat of arms below the varnish. Instead of zinc, the fitting is made from nickel silver and it has original style hand engraved decorations, made with original tools. The sheath is the same model but insted of cardboard, made from vegetable tanned cowhide with a Finnish flag and pine decal on it.
Anniversary knives have leather tassels in variable colors. These tassels are our new old stock from the 1940-50´s and are in many color variations, being almost unique so we cannot take orders for any specific colors but those are selected randomly.
The blade is 10 cm (4”) polished carbon steel, it has etched Iisakki Järvenpää, Kauhava and number (1-80/80) on the right side. On the left side are engraved years 1939-1945. There is no room for any additional engravings. All these knives will have a copy of Finnish marshal Mannerheim´s letter no 137 to all who fought for our independence, it is the original version written in Finnish.
