One of the most famous and the most wanted products of Iisakki Järvenpää Osakeyhtiö is the Helahoito set, consisting of the Kaksneuvoonen double sheath Härmä Knife and the Helavyö belt. This black one is the alternative to the red brass Helahoito, which is the most popular traditional knife set.
The knives have black painted curly birch handles and polished carbon steel blades. All decoratings has been manually engraved. The smaller knife (Junki) has a 7cm long blade and the bigger knife's blade is 10cm long.
The knives, the sheath and the Helavyö belt are completely hand-made from beginning to end, therefore the production phase takes several meticulous hours. For example, every single hanging loop for the Helavyö belt's ornaments are still twisted by hand with a thread and sawn by hand. Each loop is attached to the belt one by one, not too loose, but in such a way that they rattle. That's how it's always been done. The belt is easy to shorten by removing ornaments, but it's long enough (115cm) also for a sturdier person. Longer belts are available to special order.
The villagers and boys were amazed and in awe when a huge oddity rolled down the road in September, 1922. Alfred Kosola’s horses had to tax their strength when drawing a sleigh with an indenting hammer of 5.000 kilograms, along the snowless road to the Järvenpää’s factory. The cubs’ imagination really took over, when they began to hear a constant pounding from the factory. It was like an iron giant’s sledgehammer banging.
