The Children's Scout Knife

The Children's Scout Knife is designed for children, hence the name. The blade is 7cm long, made of polished carbon steel, and its shape is characteristic for all the scout knives. The handle is built up from stacked leather layers, and its surface is then sanded and varnished. The ferrules on both ends of the handle are polished aluminum, and the bolster serves also as a finger guard preventing the index finger from slipping to the blade. The tip of the blade is ground round and totally blunt, but the base of it is sharp, so that one can whittle but doesn't get a stab wound. The sheath is dark or light brown round sewn leather. At the tip of the sheath there's a reinforcement made of polished stainless steel. The design on the sheath is done by pressing. The model looks exactly the same as the bigger ones, thus the little boy scout or girl scout feels belonging to the group. The Scout Knife production began in 1925 continuing uninterrupted ever since. Total size 20cm, knife 16cm, blade 7cm.

The villagers and boys were amazed and in awe when a huge oddity rolled down the road in September, 1922. Alfred Kosola’s horses had to tax their strength when drawing a sleigh with an indenting hammer of 5.000 kilograms, along the snowless road to the Järvenpää’s factory. The cubs’ imagination really took over, when they began to hear a constant pounding from the factory. It was like an iron giant’s sledgehammer banging.
