Mannerheim knife

The Mannerheim Puukko is a numbered special series of 50 pieces

Iisakki Järvenpää was given the honorary title of the Emperor’s Knifemaker by Emperor Nicholas II in 1894 when he made horse-head knives for the newly crowned emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra. The horse-head knife had been Iisakki’s signature model since 1882.

At the same time, Lieutenant Carl Gustaf Emil Mannerheim served in the emperor’s Chevalier Guard. He soon became the tsar’s supplier of premier horses and the head of cavalry riding instruction for cavalry regiments. Mannerheim served in the emperor’s army around the world, gaining diverse experience from the battlefields. After the Russian Revolution, Mannerheim led Finland to independence and under his leadership, the authorities and administrative organizations of the independent state were established.

Mannerheim was also familiar in South Ostrobothnia. Often, when people speak of Mannerheim’s Headquarters, Mikkeli comes to mind. However, much earlier, on January 27, 1918 — a critical day for our independence — he held his headquarters in Ylihärmä. The next day, the headquarters moved to Seinäjoki, where it remained for one and a half months. In honor of this, Seinäjoki has Finland’s first Mannerheim statue.

We have got together these historical details into the Mannerheim Knife. The knife model is the Kauhava Horse-Head Knife, on whose handle is added the Finnish coat of arms — fundamentally the same model as the Emperor’s Knife once was. The coat of arms is the same as it was during the war in 1939. The sheath is made of natural light-colored vegetable-tanned leather with brass fittings. The Mannerheim’s signature has been heat stamped on the sheath as a mirror stamp, and on the upper brass fitting, the Mannerheim family coat of arms is engraved. The same coat of arms is also found at the base of the knife blade. On the opposite side of the blade has the individual numbering. The blade is 10 cm long, made of polished carbon steel. The horse-head is cast from brass, the engraving on the fittings is done by hand using old techniques.
Limited numbered edition of 50.
